Margaret Ritchie's political career began in 1985 when she was elected to Down District Council representing the Rowallane Area. Having been elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly in 2003 and again in 2007, Margaret was appointed Minister for Social Development on 8th of May 2007 and is the sole SDLP member of the new Northern Ireland Executive.
