Funding for the delivery of the Ballynahinch Bypass has not been identified
Ballynahinch Bypass Funding Dependent on Outcome of Investment Strategy 2011-21
Following my meeting with Minister Danny Kennedy MLA and representations on the need for funding to be identified to deliver the Ballynahnch Bypass the Minister has confirmed that at this stage his budget has allowed for development work on the Ballynahinch By-pass to continue.
However, funding for the delivery of the Bypass has not been identified or confirmed The Minister has confirmed in writing that delivery of the bypass scheme for Ballynhainch is dependent on funding levels envisaged through the Investment Strategy for Northern Ireland 2011-21, which is currently being finalised.
Ballynahnch bypass is vital to opening up the trade and tourism route into South Down and developing Ballynahinch. I would urge the community to continue to lobby and place pressure on the Department for Regional Development for the delivery of the bypass scheme, as it is not a done deal at this time.
I will continue to lobby the Minister for Regional Development for the delivery of the bypass scheme and I will be stressing that this scheme, which has been recognised by the Department was a requirement for many years should be delivered within an acceptable timeframe.
I would encourage the community to keep up the campaign for the delivery of the Ballynahinch bypass, particularly at this time, when funding priorities 2011- 2021 are being considered by the Department
