Margaret Ritchie, SDLP Assembly Member for South Down and Minister for Social Development, attended the Balmoral show this week meeting with constituents from South Down, and the agricultural community across Northern Ireland. Miss Ritchie was also there to support her SDLP colleague Alban Magenniss in his campaign for the European Election.
Miss Ritchie said, “I am delighted to attend the Balmoral show and meet with constituents from the agricultural community.
For five years rural and agricultural communities have lost out in Europe due to poor representation. I believe through Alban Magenniss our farming communities and families will have a clear voice in Europe and a representative who will deliver.
During this period of economic down turn it is important that measures are put in place to safeguard agricultural industry & business. One of Alban Magenniss’ key priorities, if elected, will be a review of the Less Favoured Area Policy and Reform of the Common Agricultural Policy.
Furthermore, the SDLP, through our candidate Alban Magenniss will be striving to ensure the vitality of the rural environment by establishing equal links to public services and amenities. It is important our community in the countryside have equal access to such provisions as urban dwellers.”
