Ritchie welcomes proposed solution to foul odours in Cathedral View, Downpatrick

SDLP Assembly Member for South Down, Margaret Ritchie has welcomed the announcement from Northern Ireland Water that funding has been secured for a new chemical dosing plant at the Flying Horse Waste Water Pumping Station.

Miss Ritchie said, “For too long the residents of Cathedral View, Downpatrick have been plagued by foul odours.

Following representations by me on behalf of all residents two months ago I was advised that investigations to determine the source of the foul odours indicated that the odours are related to effluent discharges into the sewer.

I am pleased Northern Ireland Water will be seeking to combat this problem by installing a new chemical dosing plant at the Flying Horse Waste Water Pumping Station.

I have been advised NIW are currently tendering this work and hope to have the installation completed by the end of February 2010.

I trust this new dosing plant will alleviate all problems experienced by residents in relation to the continuous foul odours.”
